Plot synopsis
Determined to alter Old Man Mozz's predictions, the 21st Phantom rides off toward Gravelines Maximum Security Prison again, this time taking Devil with him. His first night's sleep is interrupted by the Flaming Skeleton The Llongo Forest.
The next day, he rides over the mountain pass into Rhodia, stopping at the home of the veterinarian, Dr. Fajah Kimathi. He and Devil climb in through a window, pistols in hand, awakening the doctor and her husband. Putting his guns away, he tells them that a woman (Savarna) might come the next night with a wounded Phantom. He tells them to let him die, but convince the woman that they did all they could to save him.
As he rides on, he plans how to do things differently, to foil Old Man Mozz's predictions. He gets the flares, stops the truck, and uses it to get inside, just as in Mozz's predictions. This time, instead of asking if Savarna has had enough of revenge, he tells her that if only one of them gets out of the prison, it has to be her. She agrees to that aloud, while privately rejecting it. While he tries to sneak them out, she thwarts that by grabbing a couple of heavy weapons.
As they prepare to take a jeep, Devil growls and snaps at the Phantom. They follow Devil, thus walking out instead of taking the main gate. They run into two Bandar women, armed with bows and arrows. The Phantom thinks they are there because Mozz has told his story to Guran. The women are the vanguard of a large Bandar force. Poison-tipped arrows take out both guards in the nearby tower. As they are all about to slip away quietly, Savarna noisily blasts the tower room. After more shots, and the appearance of the entire Bandar nation, the Phantom decides to alter Mozz's predictions in a big way by freeing all of the political prisoners, not just Savarna. The story continues in "Dungeons Undone."
