Fantomen 1994
In the year 1994, a total of 26 issues of Swedish comic book Fantomen were published.
Overview
1994 was a year of great change for Fantomen. The magazine was expanded from 68 to 84 pages, only Team Fantomen stories were published, and the stories had a common theme of changes in the Phantom's world.
This year the editorial staff consisted of Björn Ihrstedt (editor) and Ulf Granberg, Bo Majgren, Göran Siljerud, Peter Friman and Christer Thunborg.[1]
Promotion
The changes of Fantomen were promoted in an award-winning advertisement campaign, and the new direction led to a lot of publicity in media. The phrase "Legenden lever" ("The legend lives") was the slogan for the campaign.
Photo montages were used in the campaign to show that the Phantom was alive in our world. Among the images were crop circles in the shape of the Good Mark, Ku Klux Klan members turned upside down and stuck in the ground, and the Phantom standing behind Nelson Mandela.
Promotional posters were supplied for most issues published during the year, some of which were designed to look like headlines from the fictional Bengali Times newspaper.

Covers
The main cover artist of the year was Terje Aspmo (17 covers). Other cover artists were Peter Friman (3 covers), Christer Thunborg (2 covers), Tony Bagge (2 covers) and Rolf Gohs (2 covers). This was also a big change for Fantomen, as Friman and Bagge were new cover artists this year, and Aspmo and Thunborg were new cover artists in 1993. Veteran cover artist Gohs only produced two covers, the least he has ever done in one year.
The general cover design was updated. The one-colored border which had been part of the cover from 1990 to 1993 was replaced by a thin white line. A bar was placed at the top of the cover for information about the contents of the issue, and a symbol to highlight that the issues now were 84 pages was placed in the top right corner of most issues. The Fantomen logo was also given a new design.

Phantom stories
For the first time in the history of Fantomen, only Team Fantomen stories were published during the year. New stories were not only used as main stories in every issue, but also occasionally as back-up stories. The long running serialised story "The Heart of Darkness" also began this year, all to increase the presence of the Phantom in Fantomen.
This was also the first year that no newspaper strip stories at all were published in Fantomen.

"Xenozoic Tales" and the "Blueberry" spin-off "Marshal Blueberry" were new comics this year. "Albatross", "Herman Storm", "James Hund", "Tybalt", "Vi å pappa", "Herman Hedning" and some episodes of "Det okända" were all produced exclusively for Fantomen.
