Plot synopsis
The story of the youth of the 21st Phantom, from his earliest memories, his jungle childhood, education in America, the death of his mother and his return home, and finally his father's death and him swearing the Oath of the Skull.

The story differs from The Childhood of the Phantom, as well as other re-tellings of the Phantom's early years in several ways; the 1st Phantom is called Eric Nelson, and his father Sir Gerald Nelson, and the 21st Phantom's American relatives are named Lucy and Jasper Walker.
