The Phantom Gallery
The Phantom Gallery is a collectible card series from Australian Company Intrepid Marketing. Released in 1996 the set is a celebration of The Phantom's history and showcases artwork by some of the best in comics, film and animation.
Set Detail
In total there are 118 cards in the set, divided up into base set and three sub-sets.
Base Set
The first 52 cards of the set make up a story entitled "Death's Dark Path", written by Chuck Dixon with art by Graham Nolan.
Card 55 starts the "gallery" portion of the series, showcasing works by various artists. The gallery is also divided into sub-sections, with cards 79 to 81 being labeled Phantoons as the artists are famous cartoonists. Cards 82 to 84, called British Invasion, are by UK artists. Cards 85 to 99 are called Wizards of Oz, and are by Australian artists. Card 100 is the set checklist.
Sub Sets
The series features three sub-sets, Legends showcasing art by some of the most famous artists in the world; Phantom: Year One which featured cards based upon the Marvel mini-series and art intended for a never released card series entitled The Phantom Year One: The Devi Sands.
The third sub-set, Past, Present, Future Phantoms featured art by Glenn Ford and brought together Phantom's of different generations such as the First Phantom and Julie Walker
Exchange Cards, Promos and Folder
While not part of the series as such, the Exchange Cards are larger-sized cards featuring the art of some of the cards from the series. 1000 of these were released and came with a certificate of authenticity.
Two promo cards were released, both featuring the work of Glenn Ford as well as an official series folder.
