Talk:Devil

Half-baked idea and strawman -- is it worth our while to say something about Devil's function as a narrative device (in addition to his obvious nature as a colorful plot ingredient)?

What I mean is this: the Phantom, as a solo character, doesn't get to talk to a human co-star in the course of action very often. Thought balloons get old quickly. Devil fills this void neatly by providing an audience for the Phantom as he announces, "Devil, what do you say we fool these bad guys with this incredibly neat trick."

Devil, of course, holds up his end of the bargain with his frequent insightful responses of "Woof!" and "Grrr!" In a narrative sense, the analogy:

Phantom : Devil :: C-3PO : R2-D2

... seems apt.

   Under a "Behind the Scenes" header we could mention such things. Just stay on the right side of own research vs established and generally accepted facts.
   Off topic: when time permits, and unless someone else does it first, I will add scans of the only two times (that I know of) where Devil's thoughts are shown in a thought bubble! :) Andreas 14:26, 29 October 2008 (CET)
