Extra

Extra is a Brazilian newspaper that published "The Phantom" daily strip between July 21, 2014 and March 13, 2015.

History

Founded in April 1998 by Infoglobo, a company that also controls the newspaper O Globo and is part of Grupo Globo, Extra quickly became one of the best-selling newspapers in the metropolitan region of Rio de Janeiro.

On July 21, 2014, the newspaper began publishing daily comic strips of The Phantom and Beetle Bailey. The Phantom was published until March 13, 2015, when it was replaced by Andy Capp by Reg Smythe.

In January 2018, Editora Globo, Infoglobo, and Valor Econômico were merged into a single company under the name Editora Globo, which came to manage 21 brands. Later that same year, Grupo Globo began a unification process involving TV Globo, Globosat, Globo.com, and Globoplay, under the initiative called “Uma Só Globo” (“One Globo”), aiming to consolidate their previously separate operations into a single structure. The completion of the first phase of this unification was officially announced in 2021.
