Fictional character biography
Balkis was the queen of a great city called Saba, located in the Egyptian desert. Exactly when she ruled in Saba is unknown, but given that her warriors were known as "amazons" and that she had men fight in gladiatorial battles The Queen of Saba, it must be assumed it was sometime during the Roman occupation, approximately 30–641 BC.
During a flight over the Egyptian desert, The 21st Phantom is attacked by a snake that has been hidden in the cockpit. Due to the snake attack The Phantom crashes the plane, being thrown out of the craft during impact. Exactly what happens next is unclear, but The Phantom believes himself to be found by Balkis' warriors, who carry him off to Saba. Having lost his memory during the crash, The Phantom believes everything he sees as he has no reason to question it. Eventually, he falls in love with Balkis and becomes her bodyguard.
However, when Balkis' champion, Ursus, again knocks The Phantom unconscious we are shown that he still lies near the crashed aircraft, suggesting he dreamed the whole ordeal. This time, he is discovered by Sherazad, a woman who looks astoundingly similar to Balkis and lives in another desert city.
It is revealed that Sherazad is actually Balkis reincarnated which explain why they look so similar and why The Phantom and Sherazad fall in love with one another. It is suggested that Balkis' spirit watches over Sherazad and The Phantom so that they can have their time together. However, like Balkis herself, Sherazad is destined to have to say goodbye to The Phantom once he regains his memory.
