Released in 1990, this 16-bit game based upon the series was also released on the Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Commodore 64, SAM Coupé, ZX Spectrum home computers. The game sees you take control of Flash Gordon as he explores Ming's castle. He is able to call on the other Defenders member to aid him throughout his adventure.

== Co-Produced Newspapers ==
I have recently come across a couple of examples of co-produced newspapers. In some cases, there are simply different editions of the same newspaper, but with different titles. Sometimes, There are to separate newspapers that are joined together, with diferent editions, eventually becoming only one edition. See [[LV.]], [[LK.]], [[VP.]], [[Folkbladet]], and [[Östgöten]] which illustrates two examples of this.

HOW are we to make articles about this? Separate for the different editions (as I have done)? Separate articles for the different newspapers, even for the part of the publication of [[dailies]] after they have become one newspaper?

== Fantomen covers ==
How should a cover be named? I have always thought that Fantomen covers were to be be named "Fantomen etc.." even if it was first published in Norway or any of the other countries which ''Fantomen'' was co-produced with because the main work was done in Sweden. Now we have the case of [[Fantomet 9/2015]] which was published August 20, while [[Fantomen 20/2015]] was published September 24. Thus we have the article [[Fantomet 9/2015 cover]]. :The [[Fantomet 9/2015 cover]] is an exception, it was produced for the edition in Norway without any plans for use in Sweden (as told by the artist in a Facebook post). An opportunity to use it in Sweden came already the same year, but it could also have been put on hold for years or never used at all. Other covers are produced for the Swedish edition, but sometimes appear in other countries some days/weeks before due to practical reasons. ==Merchandise Parent Category==
I've noticed that it can be hard to find listings on merchandise unless you know exactly what you're looking for. Unlike, say, 'comics,' it can be hard to look up merchandise a some people might put something in as a toy, while another might list it as an action figure. I was thinking that if we had a parent merchandise category that all others could go under it would make finding those articles much easier. ==Suggestion of New article about the Palmer family==
I haven't been writing anything in this wiki for years, but now I would propose that we create an article for the Palmer family. This in order to get an overview of its members and how they are related. Diana's grandfather, [[H. H. Palmer]], for instance claims that Diana is his only grandchild. Elsie, sister of Lily and Dave, appears to not have a husband at the time when she meets the Phantom (had she have been younger, she would have want to marry the Phantom). But Diana has several cousins that shows up every now and then. It could be that "cousin" is used in a more general sense (i.e. also for second cousins, etc), but it should be in an article to be pointed out. I remember that in "Fantomen Talar" there was once a discussion by the editor of how Diana's family looked like.

Over the last month or so I've been building a personal wiki for my own collections (to save buying the same thing twice, which has happened more than once) and have been adding stuff to PhantomWiki as I go along. Would you want just a single "Figures" and "Statues" page, or would you like them combined as I have done? Perhaps a dedicated page per manufacturer? ==Plot summary==

The legend of the Phantom starts when a young boy, the last survivor of a pirate attack, is washed ashore on a mysterious island called [[Bengalla]]. He swears to devote his life to the destruction of piracy, greed, cruelty, and injustice, in all their forms. When he grows to be a man, he adopts the identity of [[The First Phantom|The Phantom]], a masked avenger. The role of the Phantom is passed on from father to son through centuries, causing people to believe it is the same, seemingly immortal man, giving him nicknames such as "The Ghost Who Walks" and "The Man Who Never Dies".

The film tells us the story of Kit Walker, [[the 21st Phantom]] (Zane), and his attempt to prevent rich madman Xander Drax (Treat Williams) from obtaining a weapon of doom, the Skulls of Touganda, that will give him the secret to ultimate power and world domination.

In the process of tracking down the skulls, The Phantom also meets his former girlfriend [[Diana Palmer]] (Kristy Swanson), who proves to be an invaluable help for him. The search for the skulls becomes even more complicated for the Phantom when he discovers that one of Drax's henchmen, Quill (James Remar), is the killer of his father.

==Production==
The film is loosely based on Lee Falk's first two Phantom stories, "[[The Singh Brotherhood (story)|The Singh Brotherhood]]" and "[[The Sky Band (story)|The Sky Band]]". Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa plays [[Kabai Singh|Kabai Sengh]], leader of [[The Singh Brotherhood|the Sengh Brotherhood]] (the name of the brotherhood was changed from Singh to Sengh in the movie), and Catherine Zeta-Jones plays [[Sala]], leader of [[the Sky Band]], a group of female criminal air-pirates.

Joe Dante was originally attached to direct the $45million US adaptation, and he developed a draft of the script together with Jeffrey Boam of ''Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'' fame. However, when Paramount Pictures pushed the film back a year, Dante left for other commitments, with Simon Wincer replacing him as a director. Dante ended up as one of the executive producers. Joel Schumacher was also considered to direct the film. Both Wincer and Boam felt the film should be a good, old-fashioned adventure film; “action –adventure with a twinkle in the eye.”

Director Simon Wincer then cast Billy Zane, who had recently won praise for his work as a psychopath in ''Dead Calm''. Zane won the part after competition from cult-icon Bruce Campbell and actor Kevin Smith. Billy Zane feverishly pumped iron for over a year to play the Phantom. A Batman-like costume with fake muscles was made for him, but by the time filming started, Zane was so beefed up that he did not need it.

Filming began on 3rd of October, 1995. The film traveled from Los Angeles to New York, Phang Nga Bay (Thailand), and Australia (Gold Coast). It is also the only film to be allowed to film on location at the Playboy Mansion (as the home of the wealthy Palmer family) as Hugh Hefner is a big ''Phantom'' phan. The film wrapped on 13th February 1996, almost sixty years to the day since the character first appeared in print.

Many scenes developing the romance between the Phantom/Kit Walker and Diana Palmer were cut in order to make the film more fast paced. Many of the scenes took place in the [[Deep Woods]] of Bengalla. An action scene featuring the Phantom wrestling a lion and one with him fighting a snake were also cut.

==Reaction==

===General===
The movie suffered the same fate as two other period-piece comic book/pulp adaptations at the time, ''The Shadow'' and ''The Rocketeer'', and did not fare very well at the box office in the US.

Although it fared well in countries such as Australia
where the character is very popular the film failed to impress where it really counts – America. It grossed just $5 million US on its opening weekend and $17.3 million US over all in that country. While most critics felt it was a decent film many Americans felt the film was a ''Batman'' rip off, ignorant to the fact that the Phantom pre-dated the Dark Knight.

The fact that two editors are credited on screen suggests the film was heavily re-edited. The introduction of the Phantom’s character was originally longer with more of an emphasis on the mystery of the
character. The Phantom was shown sitting in the Skull Throne, head bowed illuminated in the half light of sun shining down upon him from the roof of the Skull Cave. This dramatic and powerful image was used of the ''The Ghost Who Walks'' teaser poster. ''The Phantom'' was considered to be a commercial failure...

===Phan Reaction===
The film has divided the ''Phantom'' community
somewhat into two camps – those who like the film and those who feel it is not true to Falk’s work. While Phans agree that some changes were un - needed, such as the changes made to the Phantom’s origin and the lack of Skull Oath, many Phans enjoy the film. They feel Billy Zane fit the role perfectly and looks like a Sy Barry illustration come to life. These Phans feel
the film captures the feel of the Lee Falk penned ''Phantom'' adventures wonderfully, despite the changes. Old Jungle Sayings – the first thing one would think would be aborted – remained in the film. The inclusion of classic Falk villains the Sing Brotherhood (re-named Sengh) and the Sky Band also pleased many Phans. Phans that enjoy the film argue that, while it may not be perfect, the film does capture the spirit of the strip and, above all, is a lot of fun.

On the other hand some Phans do not enjoy this version of their hero. They feel the film is too much like an ''Indiana Jones'' film (an ''Indiana Jones'' script writer did write the films script, after all) and that the story, dealing as it does with ancient, mystical powers, is plain silly. Some dislike the patterns added to the costume. It was said by costume designers that a plain purple suite with black/ blue undies was made but it looked terrible on film. However, this does not appease some Phans.

Criticism was also launched at Treat Williams for his portrayal of Xander Drax which many felt was simply too over the top. Kristy Swanson was also criticized for her below par performance as Diana Palmer. Also, many Phans disliked the inclusion of a new villain when a whole stable of Falk villains could have been used. Many feel the film should have concentrated on the Sing and the Sky Band, or just the Sing
themselves, and dismiss Drax.

==Novelization==
A [[The Phantom (Movie novel)|novelization of the film]] was written by [[Rob MacGregor]], author of many novels featuring Indiana Jones. It included a more detailed look at the backstory of the characters, and also a few scenes which were omitted from the final cut of the movie.

The film tells us the story of Kit Walker, [[the 21st Phantom]] (Zane), and his attempt to prevent rich madman Xander Drax (Treat Williams) from obtaining a weapon of doom, the Skulls of Touganda, that will give him the secret to ultimate power and world domination.

In the process of tracking down the skulls, The Phantom also meets his former girlfriend [[Diana Palmer]] (Kristy Swanson), who proves to be an invaluable help for him. The search for the skulls becomes even more complicated for the Phantom when he discovers that one of Drax's henchmen, Quill (James Remar), is the killer of his father.

The film is loosely based on Lee Falk's first two Phantom stories, "[[The Singh Brotherhood (story)|The Singh Brotherhood]]" and "[[The Sky Band (story)|The Sky Band]]". Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa plays [[Kabai Singh|Kabai Sengh]], leader of [[The Singh Brotherhood|the Sengh Brotherhood]] (the name of the brotherhood was changed from Singh to Sengh in the movie), and Catherine Zeta-Jones plays [[Sala]], leader of [[the Sky Band]], a group of female criminal air-pirates.

Joe Dante was originally attached to direct the $45million US adaptation, and he developed a draft of the script together with Jeffrey Boam of ''Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade'' fame. However, when Paramount Pictures pushed the film back a year, Dante left for other commitments, with Simon Wincer replacing him as a director. Dante ended up as one of the executive producers. Joel Schumacher was also considered to direct the film. Both Wincer and Boam felt the film should be a good, old-fashioned adventure film; “action –adventure with a twinkle in the eye.”

Director Simon Wincer then cast Billy Zane, who had recently won praise for his work as a psychopath in ''Dead Calm''. Zane won the part after competition from cult-icon Bruce Campbell and actor Kevin Smith. Billy Zane feverishly pumped iron for over a year to play the Phantom. A Batman-like costume with fake muscles was made for him, but by the time filming started, Zane was so beefed up that he did not need it.

Filming began on 3rd of October, 1995. The film traveled from Los Angeles to New York, Phang Nga Bay (Thailand), and Australia (Gold Coast). It is also the only film to be allowed to film on location at the Playboy Mansion (as the home of the wealthy Palmer family) as Hugh Hefner is a big ''Phantom'' phan. The film wrapped on 13th February 1996, almost sixty years to the day since the character first appeared in print.

Many scenes developing the romance between the Phantom/Kit Walker and Diana Palmer were cut in order to make the film more fast paced. Many of the scenes took place in the [[Deep Woods]] of Bengalla. An action scene featuring the Phantom wrestling a lion and one with him fighting a snake were also cut.

The movie suffered the same fate as two other period-piece comic book/pulp adaptations at the time, ''The Shadow'' and ''The Rocketeer'', and did not fare very well at the box office in the US.

Although it fared well in countries such as Australia
where the character is very popular the film failed to impress where it really counts – America. It grossed just $5 million US on its opening weekend and $17.3 million US over all in that country. While most critics felt it was a decent film many Americans felt the film was a ''Batman'' rip off, ignorant to the fact that the Phantom pre-dated the Dark Knight.

The fact that two editors are credited on screen suggests the film was heavily re-edited. The introduction of the Phantom’s character was originally longer with more of an emphasis on the mystery of the
character. The Phantom was shown sitting in the Skull Throne, head bowed illuminated in the half light of sun shining down upon him from the roof of the Skull Cave. This dramatic and powerful image was used of the ''The Ghost Who Walks'' teaser poster. ''The Phantom'' was considered to be a commercial failure...

===Phan Reaction===
The film has divided the ''Phantom'' community
somewhat into two camps – those who like the film and those who feel it is not true to Falk’s work. While Phans agree that some changes were un - needed, such as the changes made to the Phantom’s origin and the lack of Skull Oath, many Phans enjoy the film. They feel Billy Zane fit the role perfectly and looks like a Sy Barry illustration come to life. These Phans feel
the film captures the feel of the Lee Falk penned ''Phantom'' adventures wonderfully, despite the changes. Old Jungle Sayings – the first thing one would think would be aborted – remained in the film. The inclusion of classic Falk villains the Sing Brotherhood (re-named Sengh) and the Sky Band also pleased many Phans. Phans that enjoy the film argue that, while it may not be perfect, the film does capture the spirit of the strip and, above all, is a lot of fun.

On the other hand some Phans do not enjoy this version of their hero. They feel the film is too much like an ''Indiana Jones'' film (an ''Indiana Jones'' script writer did write the films script, after all) and that the story, dealing as it does with ancient, mystical powers, is plain silly. Some dislike the patterns added to the costume. It was said by costume designers that a plain purple suite with black/ blue undies was made but it looked terrible on film. However, this does not appease some Phans.

Criticism was also launched at Treat Williams for his portrayal of Xander Drax which many felt was simply too over the top. Kristy Swanson was also criticized for her below par performance as Diana Palmer. Also, many Phans disliked the inclusion of a new villain when a whole stable of Falk villains could have been used. Many feel the film should have concentrated on the Sing and the Sky Band, or just the Sing
themselves, and dismiss Drax.

== Co-Produced Newspapers ==
I have recently come across a couple of examples of co-produced newspapers. In some cases, there are simply different editions of the same newspaper, but with different titles. Sometimes, There are to separate newspapers that are joined together, with diferent editions, eventually becoming only one edition. See [[LV.]], [[LK.]], [[VP.]], [[Folkbladet]], and [[Östgöten]] which illustrates two examples of this.

HOW are we to make articles about this? Separate for the different editions (as I have done)? Separate articles for the different newspapers, even for the part of the publication of [[dailies]] after they have become one newspaper?

How should a cover be named? I have always thought that Fantomen covers were to be be named "Fantomen etc.." even if it was first published in Norway or any of the other countries which ''Fantomen'' was co-produced with because the main work was done in Sweden. Now we have the case of [[Fantomet 9/2015]] which was published August 20, while [[Fantomen 20/2015]] was published September 24. Thus we have the article [[Fantomet 9/2015 cover]]. ==Merchandise Parent Category==
I've noticed that it can be hard to find listings on merchandise unless you know exactly what you're looking for. Unlike, say, 'comics,' it can be hard to look up merchandise a some people might put something in as a toy, while another might list it as an action figure. I was thinking that if we had a parent merchandise category that all others could go under it would make finding those articles much easier. ==Suggestion of New article about the Palmer family==
I haven't been writing anything in this wiki for years, but now I would propose that we create an article for the Palmer family. This in order to get an overview of its members and how they are related. Diana's grandfather, [[H. H. Palmer]], for instance claims that Diana is his only grandchild. Elsie, sister of Lily and Dave, appears to not have a husband at the time when she meets the Phantom (had she have been younger, she would have want to marry the Phantom). But Diana has several cousins that shows up every now and then. It could be that "cousin" is used in a more general sense (i.e. also for second cousins, etc), but it should be in an article to be pointed out. I remember that in "Fantomen Talar" there was once a discussion by the editor of how Diana's family looked like.

==History==
"The Phantom: Treasures of Drakon" is a boardgame produced and released by [[Frew Games]] in 2021 via Kickstarter. The game was created by Co-Designers [[Dale Maccanti]] and Alex Wynnter who had actually been working on the game for five years before the launch of the Kickstarter in 2019. Also involved with the project is [[Glenn Ford]], [[Jamie Johnson]], [[Paul Mason]] and [[Daniel Picciotto]].

The game was successfully funded on Kickstarter in 2019. They raised $AU63,244 in pre-orders, exceeding the needed $AU51,000 goal allowing for stretch goals to be met. One such stretch goal was the solo expansion game "Kid Phantom: Battle of Drakon".

The Phantom Movie trading card series was released in 1996 to coincide with the Billy Zane starring [[The Phantom (1996 film)|film]]. Released by Inkworks, the series consisted of a base set of 90 cards, three subsets and a promotional card. 30,000 boxes of 100 packs were produced.

==Base Set==
The base set of 90 cards is divided up into three basic sections. The first section, which consists of cards #1 to 70 retell the events of the film. The second section, being made of cards #71 through 81 gives information of the cast of the film as well as Phantom creator Lee Falk and the Phantom character himself. The third section, made of cards #82 to 90, give information on aspects of the world of the Phantom such as the Skull Cave and the process that went into making the Phantom's costume for the film. Card #90 is the series checklist, but does not list the sub sets.

===Cut Scenes===
Cards #20, 21, 37, 38 and 41 of the base set depict scenes that were filmed but did not make the final cut of the film (it is possible that card #20 features an image used for promotional purposes, but as this image has not been shown on any promotional material and appears in the story portion of the set this is unlikely).

The Phantom Movie trading card series has three subsets. The first of these is actually only one card, a Lenticular Card. There was one Lenticular Card in every three boxes. The second sub set were Puzzel Cards (P#1-9) with the third sub set being Skull Cards (F#1-3) which were holographic cards depicting the three Skulls of Touganda. There was also one promotional card produced.

The Phantom Movie trading card series was released in 1996 to coincide with the Billy Zane starring [[The Phantom (1996 film)|film]]. Released by Inkworks, the series consisted of a base set of 90 cards, three subsets and a promotional card. 30,000 boxes of 100 packs were produced.

==Base Set==
The base set of 90 cards is divided up into three basic sections. The first section, which consists of cards #1 to 70 retell the events of the film. The second section, being made of cards #71 through 81 gives information of the cast of the film as well as Phantom creator Lee Falk and the Phantom character himself. The third section, made of cards #82 to 90, give information on aspects of the world of the Phantom such as the Skull Cave and the process that went into making the Phantom's costume for the film. Card #90 is the series checklist, but does not list the sub sets.

===Cut Scenes===
Cards #20, 21, 37, 38 and 41 of the base set depict scenes that were filmed but did not make the final cut of the film (it is possible that card #20 features an image used for promotional purposes, but as this image has not been shown on any promotional material and appears in the story portion of the set this is unlikely).
